Am i just stereotypical?

Monday, December 24th, 2007

I have been thinking about this a lot recently and have finally decided to ask you for an answer. Am i stereotypical in my views on the world or is the world just a either / or market today. Some of you may not understand what i am getting at here, so let me explain.

I am thinking that i may just be stereotypical, but maybe i am not, maybe the world is a place where you are either one or the other, good or bad, naughty or nice or any other strong comparison. I am actually starting to think it is and this is due to many reasons, including fanboyism and maybe a hint or stereotypicalism.. (is that a word).

It was last week when i was walking through town and jokingly suggested to a friend of mine “lets go into starbucks and drink posh, overpriced coffee with the authors”. We walked past and took a look inside, maybe i am being stereotypical again, but i could see what looked like posh women and men sitting at desks with overpriced coffee typing away their latest novel on a Mac Book. Now this may not be true, i didn’t run inside and check whether they were all typing novels or even if they were authors at all, but thats what it seems like.

I see ipod owners as fashion followers. The kind of people who aspire to be someone else, maybe their cooler friend or a celebrity idol, they just seem to follow the crowd. A new ipod generation comes around, a new product to be wished for my this fashion followers who must stay with the trend and get that latest fashion gizmo.

MacBook owners in my eyes all seem bald headed, and are middle-class book writers who sit in Starbucks each day drinking an overpriced version of a cappuccino while eating a golden slice of cake, priced high enough to be gold plated.

We now have a world which chooses between Microsoft and Mac OS X. Its a one or the other decision, there arent any real other choices (Linux doesn’t count - its for old men who think Vista is better than Windows and Macs are a type of burger). The choice between two operating systems doesn’t seem to bad to most people, but to me it shows what person you are. If you are running Mac OS X, in my eyes you are easily won over by advertising campaigns, never see the big picture and accept that the 144,000 virus’s you wont be getting on your shiny new Mac makes you a wiser person, a smarter person and the next book writer i see as i walk past Starbucks next weekend.

The typical MacBook owner can take a battering of insults from a fanboy (not like myself ;) )
