Laptop Hunter: Hunting macs

Microsoft’s response to Apple “I am a Mac” has been pretty solid due to the true nature of the facts represented to viewers. It’s probably why they (Apple’s Legal Gaiz) contacted Microsoft asking them to take their new Laptop Hunter adverts off air.

At Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference, Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner said members of Apple’s legal team had contacted him and said, “You need to stop running those ads, we lowered our prices..”

Laptop Hunter adverts consist of a consumer looking to purchase the best personal computer for what they need to accomplish. Different ads feature different consumer requirements. The consumer is told that if they find the right computer under a certain price range they get to keep it for free. They show the consumer considering different choices available to him/her-of course macs are considered and waved off for their inflated pricing.

At the end the consumer finds a PC to fit their needs within a decent price range.

In my opinion these adverts are just what Microsoft needs to set their severely damaged image straight. Considering the recent financial crisis, what would attract the public more is advertising cheaper pricing not the fact that you are a “suit” if you purchase other products.

Mac adverts are too shallow to have been successful anyway. As any average computer user would be able to tell the difference between the facts and BS featured.

Microsoft has been a bit late to respond, but they have responded well. Better late than never!
