New Zune Social Features

Going to simply quote Zune Insider considering theres not much to go into about this topic:

Hey folks!

We just this week released a couple of new features, and would love you to check them out!

First, we responded to one of your common requests - How can I change my Zune Tag? Until now, the only way to change a tag has been through Xbox Live - you had to have a console! So while that worked for our gamer Zune friends, it didn’t work for everyone.

Now, you can go to “my account” and under “Account Information” you’ll see the option to “Change Zune Tag.” It will cost 800 points, just as it does on Xbox Live.

Our second feature was another user request, also. We have often been asked how users can connect with other Windows Live contacts of theirs who are also Zune members - especially if they don’t know their Zune Tag. Now, on your “my social” page we show you if any of your Windows Live contacts are on Zune. If you have such contacts, you’ll see their tile and Zune Tag, and name and location if they’ve filled that out. There will also be a link to “more of your Windows Live contacts on Zune” - I was pleasantly surprised at how many contacts I had who have Zune accounts but weren’t my Zune friends before.

Check ‘em out, and let me know what you think!

For the Zune to be Released Worldwide

Sick and tired of waiting for the Zune to be brought worldwide? Then wait no longer! There has been a petiton circuling around the Zune communities aiming to get as much signatures as possible, so that everyone in the world will have just as much as an equal opportunity, on being able to get their hands on a Zune - and not just only the U.S.

Hopefully with enough signatures, the petition will be passed onto Microsoft and from then on, all we can do is pray and hope that the petition will be taken into action. Hence, no more area restrictions on Zune Originals, Zune Social and downloads in the Zune Marketplace plus more. This provides an excellent opportunity for the rest of the world to voice their opinions and shine, and allow the spread of the Zune social.

So just take the 30 seconds to fill in your name, email and maybe a comment so that we can reach a high enough number!

Zune Social Update

You may have noticed that Zune Social was down for the last few days

Included (according to Cesar):

  • Improved overall stability and performance
  • Ability to view Favorites on your profile and the ability to remove a favorite
  • Most played artists will be displayed on your Zune Card, including three of the top songs for each of those artists (based on community usage)
  • Zune Gadgets Page: http://social.zune.net/profile/gadgets.aspx
  • Ability to view up to 24 recently played songs and 24 most played artists (increased from 5)
  • Easier to remove friends (directly from the friends activity module)
  • Timestamp for your recently played songs
  • Song and album information is now displayed in the send dialogs

I’m seeing a lot of the “stability and performance” upgrades, especially in Firefox, though for some reason, a few of the features are quirkier than last time (the “add to friends” link seems to only work when it feels like it, logging in is similar, e.g.), though this may just be due to Firefox’s own weirdnesses.

Also, I got kind of excited by the idea of being able to remove a “favorite song,” but I guess that isn’t fully there yet either (or I’m missing something). I’m also beginning to see a bit of feature creep, as the lists don’t seem to be scaling well to the design of the page. I hope they do something about that in the future, but for now I like the integration between the more static HTML and the cool Flash design.
